Started editing a new project today. It involves Yo-Yos. Big thanks to Alex for getting me the footage and FWY for letting us shoot in the studio.

Keep you guys posted as it progresses.

We have recently completed a new poster for our friend Johns film “The Happiest Place on Earth.”  I thought I’d explain some of the process that went into the creation of the graphic. Me and Christian worked primarily on it, but as always, we received alot of feedback from everyone in H&Q through out the entire process.

Our brief was to create a appropriate visual look for a “feature film about the cost of the American dream.” John and the cast and crew explain a bit about some of the subjects featured in the film in this clip.

Here

We wanted to avoid overly saturated American imagery and create something that reflected the overall feeling of the film. After collaborating with John we finally came up with a concept we liked. The idea of the American dream is represented in the purchase of a new house. A large theme in the film is how the American dream is no longer attainable, or that it was never true to begin with. The house is ripped from the earth and is flying away into the void. Leaving a trail of destruction.

Here is the first thumbnail and the most basic idea. The client approves and we then do a rough comprehensive to make sure the client is still on board with the idea before committing time and resources. The drawing is scanned and placed in photoshop. We now start making decisions about the type and placement.

After some research, Christian starts to draw the house. After several versions, he starts drawing the final on some Arches paper. We now have the most important element, the house completed. I start to try out several type treatment, I decided to go with Gotham. Me and Christian decided on the thickest version. The client wanted some distressed type so we create a brush and trace the type.

We then apply all the elements together adding the debris and halftone textures. After some tweaking and color decisions, we have the final poster.

Check out the first trailer for The Last Two Years of David Brachman.

I am very interested in the new Mari collection especially since I can actually afford it. Featured at H&M. Although, it does have a denser lady selection, there a few notables from the mens collection. I also can’t resist Sofia Coppola fashion adds. I have a tiny crush on her.
